Samsung Galaxy S10 Review and Price in Nigeria
One of the most anticipated phones of 2019 was made official yesterday in 4 different models. Out of which three are already available for pre-order and starts shipping out on the 8th of March 2019. The fourth model of the Samsung Galaxy S10 dubbed the 5G model won’t be available till sometimes around the second quarter of this year.
The S10 phones were launched to marked the 10th year anniversary of this flagship line. It saw an all round upgrade from design to processing power, operating system and wireless technology.
If we are to compare the new Galaxy phones to the iPhones launched by Apple in last September, it will be in the following order. The S10 is to take on the iPhone XS, S10 Plus to take on the iPhone XS Max and S10E to take on the iPhone XR. At least that is how it makes sense to me.
Apart from these trio, there is also a S10 5G which has bigger display, bigger battery and support 5G network. There is no model of iPhone to compare this with at least for now. Also, at the exquisite event, Samsung also unveiled there fold-able phone dubbed Samsung Galaxy X.

In case you are wondering what exactly you will be getting if you want to upgrade from the S9 to the S10. Here are few of the major upgrade to caught my attention.
Processor: It is powered by the newest, faster and better Qualcomm chip. The Qualcomm 855 that comes with Adreno 640 GPU for faster and fluid graphics rendering.
Operating System: It runs on Samsung One UI based on Android 9.0 Pie out of the box.
Protection: Its front and back glass body are made out of latest and best Corning Gorilla Glass 6 to protect your device.
Connectivity: The S10 is one of the few smartphones to first ship with the all new Wi-Fi 6. With Bluetooth 5.0 also on board, you can expect extremely fast local network speed and connectivity.
Punch Hole Camera: Consider this a reply to Apple’s notch display. Samsung calls it infinity O display. I actually likes this display on first impression. The infinity O display on the S10 holds just a camera while it holds two camera lenses on the S10 Plus.
Biometric (Fingerprint): The fingerprint sensor/scanner is neither at the rear or on the previous usual bottom bezel but now on the screen. It is called in-display fingerprint and even though samsung is not the first to feature this type of technology, it is the first to use the ultrasonic sensor thanks to Qualcomm that integrated the technology into its new chipset.
Rear Cameras: The Samsung S10 and its Plus model features three camera at the back which consist of a regular camera, telephoto lens and wide angle lens.
Display: The AMOLED infinity display is even now more brighter, sharper and better and there are various screen size to choose from (S10e, S10, S10 Plus and S10 5G).

Design & Display
The front and back of the Samsung Galaxy S10 is designed out of the best of corning, the Gorilla Glass 6 while the side / frame is aluminium material. The edges of the screen are totally bezel-less and aesthetically carved into sides. The top (which houses a speaker) and bottom however still feature very thin bezel.
At the bottom of the phone is the USB Type C port, speaker grill, earpiece and 3.5mm headphone jack (making Samsung one of the few manufacturers that still ships phones with it). The antenna bands are also visible running at the bottom, top and sides.
The volume and bixby buttons resides on the left hand side while the power button is on the right hand side. The power button on the S10e also doubles as the finger print scanner.
Now flipping to the back, you will see the beautiful horizontal of the triple camera along side the LED flash at the mid top and the Samsung branding just some inches below it.
Dynamic AMOLED display on the S10 produces crisp and vibrant colors either while watching movies, viewing Gallery or browsing the internet with it. The punch hole camera doesn’t cut out the screen while watching movies as seen with the notch display.
The screen also houses its 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor which is said to be faster in unlocking the phone and more secure that the 2D optic sensor used on the OnePlus 6T and couple other phones from vivo and Oppo.
Galaxy S10 is uses a 6.1-inches AMOLED screen with 93.1% screen to body ratio, 19:9 aspect ratio, 550 PPI pixel density, 1440 x 3040 pixels (QHD) screen resolution, uses Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection and support HDR10+.
It has a dimension of 149.9 x 70.4 x 7.8 mm and weighs 157g.
Processor, Software & Storage
The S10 is powered by the best qualcomm processor yet. The 7nm Octa Cores (single 2.8 GHz Kryo 485, three 2.4 GHz Kryo 485 and four 1.7 GHz Kryo 485) snapdragon 855 chip. For graphics/image processing especially for intense gamers, on board the processor is the Adreno 640.
Galaxy S10 runs on Samsung One UI based on Android 9.0 Pie out of the box. Assisting the processing power and intelligently optimized software is 8GB RAM and internal storage options of 128GB and 512GB. It uses an sd card that support up to 512GB.
Battery, Camera & Connectivity
The S10 is packed with a non removable 3400 Li-Ion battery capacity that supports fast charging, wireless charging both at 15W and reverse wireless charging (to charge other phones and ear buds by placing it on its glass/ceramic back).
S10 comes with a single 10 MP front facing camera with f/1.9 aperture and dual pixel PDAF. Support video recording at 2160p@30fps and 1080p@30fps.
At the rear however is triple camera. There is a wide angle camera that uses 12 MP featuring f/1.5-2.4 dual aperture, 1.4µm, OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), 26mm wide, 1/2.55″, Dual Pixel PDAF and another 12MP telephoto camera featuring 52mm telephoto, 2x optical zoom, f/2.4 aperture, 1/3.6″, 1.0µm, AF, OIS and yet another 16MP ultra wide camera that uses f/2.2 aperture, 12mm.
The triple rear camera is coupled with LED flash for night photography and can record in 720p@960fps, 1080p@240fps, 2160p@60fpsand HDR.
There is a single sim model and another model that uses hybrid sim set up. The hybrid sim can either use nano + nano or nano + sd card.
The device is IP68 certified (dust and water resistant up to 1.5m for 30 minutes). You can also make use of Samsung pay that support both Visa and MasterCard.
